Attorneys and Counselors at Law

Cynthia Hannah-White

Cynthia is licensed to practice law in Hawaii and New York (inactive), and is a member of the Kauai Bar Association, the Probate and Estate Planning and Taxation sections of the Hawaii State Bar Association, and WealthCounsel. She also serves on the Boards of Directors of Kauai Hospice and Island School, and is a founder and Board Member of Kauai Robotics Alliance, Inc., a local non-profit that supports youth robotics teams and programs on Kauai.

Cynthia graduated from Cornell Law School, magna cum laude, in 1992.  After law school, she served as a court attorney and confidential legal assistant to two highly respected New York State justices for 16 years. In these positions Cynthia gained a strong knowledge of courtroom procedure and litigation strategy and tactics, and honed her legal research and writing skills. She was sought out as an expert in these areas by many attorneys in the upstate New York area, before she relocated to Hawaii in 2008.

Since opening Kauai Estate Law in 2008, Cynthia has focused her attention on the areas of estate planning, probate and trust law. By limiting her practice to these legal topics, Cynthia is able to stay abreast of the complex and constantly changing laws and rulings that govern the planning, administration and taxation of trusts and estates. Over the past thirteen years, Cynthia has drafted hundreds of estate plans using a myriad of tools including special needs trusts, charitable trusts, pet trusts, tax-saving plans, business succession plans, and many others. Cynthia works with clients of all ages, blended families, same-sex couples, singles with and without children, and multi-generational families that want to plan together. She has planned very small estates, and others of over $20 million. Her presentations on estate planning topics have been well-received by local Rotary clubs, caregiver groups, parent groups, and AARP members. In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys scuba diving, running, building and fixing things, and reading.
